Acupuncture is a highly effective treatment and is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). It has been practiced for well over 3000 years. It operates on the premise that health issues are generally best treated by dealing with the root cause, rather than the symptoms only. Thus increasing the effectiveness and lowering the chances of reoccurrence. To find the root cause, a solid diagnosis is paramount.
Your first visit will last up to 2 hours and generally encompasses an elaborate diagnosis and a treatment. To help me with my diagnose and treatment, I kindly ask you to prepare as detailed here.
During the diagnosis I will observe, ask many questions to clarify your constitution and condition, take your pulse, look at your tongue and palpate relevant body areas if applicable. After gathering I will assimilate all info, to come to a conclusion on what is the root cause and the appropriate strategy for treatment.
Treatment will consist of acupuncture and/or prescribed herbal remedies. Acupuncture treatments consist of placing hair thin disposable and sterile needles through the skin, in very specific locations. Most patients experience this as virtually painless.
The theory behind acupuncture states that ailments are always caused by energy imbalance in the body (systems). The goal is thus to rebalance by using the appropriate acupuncture points with the proper techniques. In some cases, the amount of energy in the patients body is not sufficient for acupuncture to be effective. In these cases herbal remedies will be prescribed until the energy level is increased enough.
Usually consecutive treatments are appropriate. Such treatments last up to a hour and consist of a “mini” diagnosis to access improvement/change and the actual treatment. Although strictly speaking not acupuncture, techniques like applying moxa (heat), electro stimulation and cupping are generally considered part of an acupuncture treatment, and can be used (with your consent) where applicable.
If appropriate I will try to “educate” the patient in terms of what to do, change and avoid to lower the chances of reoccurrence and/or to improve the healing process.
In case, for your comfort, you prefer the presence of a person close to you, such person can attend on the condition he/she does not interfere with, nor talk during the treatment. Further, the utmost is done to keep your personal information confidential.
